GreenHill Center for North Carolina Art opens a retrospective exhibition of photographs by John Rosenthal entitled LIVING IN THE ORDINARY WORLD on July 22, running through November 4, 2023.

Finding the luminous in ordinary things has been a pursuit for Rosenthal for five decades. GreenHill’s survey will be organized around the artist’s major series of images of New York City, the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, his son as a child, and color landscapes of ocean waves or the French countryside.

Rosenthal’s works figure in the collections of the Ackland Museum and NCMA and he has held major exhibits at the National Humanities Center, Asheville Museum of Art and National Academy of Sciences among others. For decades he has “defined what it means to see the world through an artist’s eyes” not only through his own work, but as a writer on photography and commentator of “All Things Considered” on NPR radio.

Exhibit runs through November 4, 2023
