Portraits featuring women, everyday activists, community leaders, and future feminists, will be paired with traditionally feminine craft by being presented as mixed-media quilts. The quilts will be presented alongside 100 instant photographs.
In the ‘age of Trump,’ feminist solidarity is hitting record levels. Driven by a call-out culture facilitated by social media, we are experiencing the Fourth Wave of Feminism. A uniqueness of this wave lies in how it relates to design through the use of traditionally feminine craft. Historically speaking, craft and activism go back as long women have been involved in textiles. Needlework created a subversive space for women to discuss political movements, while appearing like they were chatting while making objects for their home.
