October 12 @ 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
With Alice Whiteside, Head of the Sloane Art Library
Explore highlights from the Sloane Art Library’s photobook collection in a special pop-up event at the Ackland Art Museum. The Sloane Art Library, part of the University Libraries at UNC-Chapel Hill, intensively collects rare and indy photobooks. Ranging from major works by Conceptual artists of the mid-20th century to small-run, self-published books by young photographers emerging around the globe today, the collection provides an eclectic survey of trends in photobook publishing over the past 50+ years. Join us to see, handle, and talk about books that are in very few public collections.
Come early or stay after the Collector’s Series Talk with Robert E. Johnson “Collecting Photographs: Snapshots, Vernacular, and Beyond” – a number of the books we’ll have on display represent projects that use found and vernacular photographs.
