Nancy Doll is director of the Weatherspoon Art Museum at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a position she has held since August 1998. With more than twenty-five years experience as a museum director, arts administrator and contemporary art curator, she came to the Weatherspoon from Santa Barbara, CA, where she was executive director of the Contemporary Arts Forum (from 1992 to 1998) and curator of modern and contemporary art at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art (from 1986 to 1992). Prior to that, she directed university art galleries in New Hampshire and Boston. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mundelein College and Master’s degree in Art History at The University of Iowa.
She has served on many boards, committees and selection panels, among them the Creative Character Steering Committee for Action Greensboro (as co-chair), North Carolina Arts Council Visual Arts Panel, National Endowment for the Arts Visual Arts and Museums Panels; Charlotte’s McColl Center for the Visual Arts Residency Panel; the Arts and Science Council of Charlotte-Mecklenburg County, and the Santa Barbara, CA Downtown Organization (of which she was vice-president for two years). She is currently chair of the Charlotte Area Transit Authority’s Arts Advisory Committee and of the Public Art Endowment Art Selection Committee of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro. Ms. Doll is an active participant in the field, has lectured widely, and has published catalogue essays, reviews and articles on the visual arts.
