10th Anniversary Screening of "Bending Space: Georges Rousse and the Durham Project"

What happens when a visionary French artist meets the creative spirit of a former Tobacco Road town in the midst of downtown revitalization? A singular grassroots arts project emerges that confounds expectations and takes the city of Durham, North Carolina by storm as buildings from a past incarnation of the city are transformed into temporary canvases for dramatic public art.

Join us for a 10th Anniversary Screening of Bending Space: Georges Rousse and the Durham Project and Rousse’s.  A decade after filmmakers Penelope Maunsell and Kenny Dalsheimer documented Rousse's historic public art project in Downtown Durham, much has changed in the city and the film is a catalyst for dialogue about the relationships and tensions between the arts and development in a rapidly changing urban landscape.  The screening also celebrates Rousse's return to Durham in October for another amazing Durham project and experience.

Bending Space captures the genius of French photographer and installation artist Georges Rousse and follows the artist and two hundred volunteers during a September 2006 public art residency in Durham.
